My Approach
Quality
My intention is to provide a high quality piece of work, with thoroughness and attention to detail always a priority.
The name of this site - ISAMBARNES - is a contraction of the name Isambard with my own surname. I chose this because of my long standing admiration for the quality of work produced by the great Victorian engineer Isambard Kingdom Brunel, who always insisted that things should be done properly and refused to skimp on anything. Because of this our trains still run across his bridges today, and that's the kind of quality I aspire to (another reason is that all the 'andy barnes' site names had been taken ! ).
Working together
My approach is to work closely with the client throughout the process, thus ensuring that we put together a site which is completely appropriate to their needs. We can begin building a site before all the fine details are worked out and then work together to gradually evolve the best solution. The client is consulted and involved at every stage and can therefore be sure that the style and content is actually what they want.
This begins with an informal, free-of-charge, no obligation discussion where we try to really understand what the purpose of the site is and what facilities are needed. The process of discussion and collaboration continues throughout the project, giving the client the final say on all issues of style and content - I will create draft versions of web pages which will be discussed, revised, and rebuilt until a satisfactory result is achieved.
Design
Some clients have a very clear idea of the design they are looking for, others prefer me to handle the design work and to come up with a proposal. Either of these approaches is fine.
In either case you will probably want to provide some of the text for the site - and you may also have photographs or artwork that you would like included.
Technical issues may need to be discussed occasionally but this will be done in plain English. Many years experience of discussing proposed computer systems with non-technical staff in the business world has convinced me that computer jargon is not needed.
Cost
To give a client as much certainty as possible I can usually agree to a fixed price arrangement. Naturally this price cannot be determined until the initial discussion has happened - but it is possible to say that straightforward web-sites can often be designed and built for under five hundred pounds - including the design work, all my time spent liaising with the client and constructing the site, and all external fees such as site name registration, etc.
